The Ghana Football Association is in advanced negotiations with Walid Regragui to take over as head coach of the Ghana national football team, with the Moroccan now widely considered the leading candidate to replace Otto Addo.
According to reports, discussions between the two parties have intensified, signaling a decisive move by the GFA as it evaluates the future direction of the national team.
Regragui’s credentials place him firmly at the top of the shortlist. The 49-year-old guided the Morocco national football team to a historic semi-final finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a feat that reshaped global perceptions of African football. He followed that success with another impressive campaign, leading Morocco to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
His tactical discipline, strong defensive structure, and ability to unify a squad have made him one of the most respected coaches on the continent. These qualities are believed to align with the GFA’s ambition to rebuild a competitive and consistent Black Stars side.
Otto Addo was sacked after a series of inconsistent results. While no official decision has been announced, the advanced nature of talks with Regragui suggests a potential shift could be imminent.
As the situation develops, attention will remain fixed on the GFA’s next move as managerial change sets to shape Ghana’s preparations for upcoming international competitions starting with the FIFA world cup.
