Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has emerged as one of the names being considered for the managerial position at French club Olympique de Marseille.
The Ligue 1 side is searching for a new coach after parting ways with Roberto De Zerbi on Tuesday.
The Italian tactician exited by mutual agreement following Marseille’s heavy 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports from France indicate that Chelle is among the candidates being assessed for the role.
French journalist Lassana Camara revealed that the Nigerian national team coach is on the shortlist, alongside former Marseille captain Habib Beye, who recently handled Stade Rennes.
Chelle’s growing reputation has attracted attention from several clubs after guiding the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Despite the speculation, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed optimism that the Malian tactician will continue in his role.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau stated that Chelle still has a year remaining on his contract and remains committed to the national team project.
According to Gusau, Chelle is passionate about working with Nigeria and believes strongly in the potential of the Super Eagles to achieve greater success.
The 48-year-old coach took charge of the three-time African champions in January 2025.
