GPL : Karela United Edge Kotoko as Ten-Man Porcupines Suffer Another Setback

Kumasi Asante Kotoko endured another disappointing afternoon after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Karela United, a result that further dents the Porcupine Warriors’ position on the Ghana Premier League table.

Kotoko’s task became even more difficult late in the first half when defender Ansu was shown a red card in the 40th minute for unsporting conduct, reducing the visitors to ten men. The numerical disadvantage quickly proved costly as Karela United capitalised almost immediately.

Just two minutes after the sending-off, Karela struck the decisive blow in the 41st minute via Malik Abubakar, finding the back of the net to take the lead before the break. The goal ultimately proved enough to separate the two sides in a tense contest.

Kotoko attempted to respond in the second half despite being a man down, but they were unable to break through Karela’s defence. The defeat sees the Kumasi-based giants drop further to fifth place on the league standings.

The Porcupine Warriors have struggled to regain momentum since their recent defeat to Accra Hearts of Oak, with the latest loss adding more pressure as the league season continues to unfold.
