Sudan assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu has suggested that Ghana captain André Ayew should consider stepping away from the national team, arguing that the experienced forward may no longer be necessary in the current setup of the Ghana national football team.
Osei-Fosu, who has worked extensively within Ghanaian football, acknowledged Ayew’s quality and long-standing contribution to the national side but questioned whether the veteran attacker still fits into the team’s present structure. According to him, difficult decisions must sometimes be made as teams evolve and new players emerge.
“He might be a very, very good player,” Osei-Fosu said. “But you ask yourself in this current setup, is he needed? Is he needed? For me, no.”
Despite his stance, the former Ghana youth coach expressed admiration for the 34-year-old forward, widely known as “Dede,” emphasizing that his comments were not meant to diminish Ayew’s legacy. Instead, he believes the time may be right for the long-serving captain to focus fully on his club career.
“Dede is my man,” Osei-Fosu added, “but for me, you leave when the applause is high. Dede himself should let it go and then focus on his club football.”
