Former Confederation of African Football Vice President Kwesi Nyantakyi has launched a scathing attack on the decision to overturn the outcome of the AFCON 2025 final, describing it as a threat to the integrity of football across the continent.
Reacting to the ruling by CAF’s Appeal Committee, which confirmed Morocco as the new champions, Nyantakyi warned that the move could have far-reaching consequences for how results are treated in African football.
“The decision to reverse the outcome of the AFCON 2025 final is an assault on the integrity of the game,” he stated firmly.
Nyantakyi, who previously held one of the most influential administrative roles within CAF, argued that altering a final result after the fact undermines the fundamental principles of competition and sets a troubling benchmark for future disputes.
According to him, such interventions risk eroding trust among teams, players, and supporters, while opening the door for increased litigation and post-match challenges in major tournaments.
The controversial ruling has already sparked widespread debate across the football community, with opinions sharply divided over the legitimacy and implications of the decision.
While CAF has yet to issue further clarification beyond its official verdict, Nyantakyi’s remarks add to growing criticism from key stakeholders concerned about preserving the credibility of continental competitions.
As discussions intensify, the fallout from the AFCON 2025 final decision continues to reverberate, raising critical questions about governance, fairness, and the long-term stability of African football.
