Yassine Bounou has opened up about the unlikely origins of his love for football, revealing that his early passion for the game was heavily influenced by Argentine football.
The Moroccan goalkeeper recalled that while growing up in Morocco, television broadcasts frequently featured matches from South America, particularly games involving Argentine giants River Plate and Boca Juniors. Those matches, he said, exposed him to a vibrant football culture unlike anything he had seen before.
Bounou noted that Argentine football captivated him not only because of the quality on the pitch but also because of the atmosphere created by supporters. The passion, color, and intensity displayed by the fans made a deep impression on him and fueled his desire to one day experience that kind of football environment firsthand.
He also revealed that he grew up admiring legendary Argentine players such as Gabriel Batistuta and Ariel Ortega, fondly recalling that the first football shirt his father ever bought for him was that of the Argentina national football team. The memory, Bounou said, remains a special moment that shaped his early connection to the sport.
