Austria strengthens squad before World Cup clash with Algeria

Austria is already sending a strong signal to its World Cup group rivals, including Algeria and Argentina, ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

After ending a long absence from the competition, the team coached by Ralf Rangnick aims to make an impact on the global stage. Drawn in a challenging group alongside Argentina, Algeria, and Jordan, the Austrians intend to rely on a talented squad to compete with some of the tournament’s strongest nations.

To reinforce its ambitions, Austria has secured the international commitment of two promising players. Attacking midfielder Paul Wanner, who impressed this season with PSV Eindhoven, has chosen to represent Austria despite also being eligible for Germany.

In addition, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, born in Vienna but raised in England, has also opted to play for the Austrian national team. Both players are now eligible for selection and could strengthen an already competitive squad ahead of the World Cup.
