OM : Medhi Benatia returns as Pablo Longoria steps aside

Olympique de Marseille is going through a major internal shake-up. After the departure of Roberto De Zerbi, uncertainty grew around the club’s leadership, especially following Medhi Benatia’s announcement that he intended to step down from his role as director of football. Supporter pressure and mounting instability forced the club’s owner to intervene.

Frank McCourt has now clarified the situation. In an official statement, the American owner confirmed that Medhi Benatia will remain at OM until the end of the season, with expanded authority over all sporting matters, including the appointment of a new head coach.

Benatia accepted the request in what is presented as a move aimed at restoring stability and keeping the club focused on its objectives, notably qualification for the next Champions League.

As part of this reorganization, Pablo Longoria’s role will change significantly. The club president is expected to move toward more institutional and representative duties, particularly at national and European levels. With Benatia strengthened and McCourt personally re-engaging, OM hopes to turn the page on a turbulent period and regain unity during a decisive phase of the season.
