Derrick Jones and Yaw Yeboah have been handed lifetime suspensions by Major League Soccer after an investigation found both players guilty of breaching the league’s strict gambling policy.
According to the league, the investigation revealed that Jones and Yeboah placed extensive bets on soccer matches throughout the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The bets reportedly included wagers involving their own teams, a serious violation of MLS rules designed to protect the integrity of the competition.
One of the most troubling findings involved a match played on October 19, 2024, where both players were found to have placed bets predicting that Jones would receive a yellow card during the game. The investigation confirmed that the midfielder was indeed booked in that match, raising serious concerns about the potential manipulation of in-game events.
MLS officials described the violations as severe and incompatible with the league’s integrity standards. As a result, the league imposed lifetime bans on both players, effectively ending their participation in MLS competitions.
The sanctions underscore the league’s zero-tolerance stance on gambling activities involving players and officials, as governing bodies across world football continue to tighten regulations to combat betting-related misconduct in the sport.
