Ligue Nationale de Football (LINAFOOT) has imposed a series of sanctions following the chaotic scenes that marred the derby between TP Mazembe and FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo in Lubumbashi.
In a disciplinary ruling, both clubs were fined $15,000 each for their roles in the disturbances that disrupted the highly anticipated fixture. The league also ordered that the next three home matches for both sides be relocated away from their usual venues.
Additionally, three upcoming matches scheduled to be played in Lubumbashi will take place behind closed doors, with no supporters allowed in the stadium as authorities attempt to restore order and prevent further incidents.
Further penalties were directed specifically at Lupopo, who have been instructed to cover the costs of damages caused to the stadium during the unrest. Meanwhile, TP Mazembe goalkeeper Marc-Philips Diouf received an individual fine of $200.
LINAFOOT warned that any repeat of such disorder could result in far harsher consequences, including possible expulsion from the league or relegation, as the governing body seeks to maintain discipline and safety within Congolese football.
