The South Sudan Football Federation this morning officially kicked off a Two-days Safeguarding training session for the Under-17 girls’ Academies under the theme “Safe Football for Every Child.”

The workshop taking place in Juba, brings together young girls from 16 football academies with the aim of strengthening awareness and understanding of safeguarding practices in football.

In attendance was the First Vice President of South Sudan Football Federation Mr. Makur Majook who highlighted the federation’s commitment to safeguarding young athletes and ensuring that football remains a safe space for children across the country.

Mrs. Suzan John – Chairlady of Women’s Football spoke about the importance of safeguarding for young girls in football and how such initiative help promote participation and confidence among female athletes.

Safeguarding is a vital pillar in modern football as it ensures that every child participating in the sport is protected from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. By creating a safe and supportive environment, safeguarding allows young girls to focus on their development both on and off the pitch, nurturing their talent while also protecting their well-being and dignity.

For the girl child in particular, safeguarding plays an important role in encouraging participation and confidence in the game. It promotes equality, empowers young female athletes, and ensures that football remains a safe space where girls can grow, learn, and pursue their dreams without fear or discrimination.

The initiative reflects the commitment of the South Sudan Football Federation to developing women football and protecting young athletes across the country. Through education, awareness, and the implementation of safeguarding policies, the federation aims to build a football culture where every child feels respected, valued, and protected while enjoying the beautiful game.
