Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a commanding performance to secure a 2-1 victory over Iran in an action-packed international friendly, with early dominance and clinical finishing proving decisive.
The breakthrough came as early as the sixth minute when Moses Simon ignited the encounter.
Picking up the ball on a swift counterattack, the winger showed pace and composure as he breezed past his marker before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom-left corner to hand Nigeria an early lead.
Buoyed by the opener, the Super Eagles maintained attacking pressure throughout the first half, creating a flurry of chances and keeping Iran on the back foot.
Their aggressive approach paid off as they went into the halftime break ahead, courtesy of Simon’s brilliant strike.
Nigeria continued in the same vein after the restart and doubled their advantage in the 51st minute.
Akor Adams finished off a well-worked move with precision after receiving a delightful assist from Ademola Lookman, highlighting the team’s attacking cohesion.
The match also saw new faces introduced into the squad.
Emmanuel Fernandez made his debut at the start of the second half, replacing Semi Ajayi, while Chibuike Nwaiwu came on for Igoh Ogbu to earn his first senior cap.
Iran responded in the 67th minute when Mehdi Taremi pulled one back, giving the visitors a lifeline and setting up a tense final phase of the game.
In response, Nigeria made a series of tactical substitutions, with Paul Onuachu, Chidera Ejuke, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru introduced for Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, and Akor Adams to inject fresh energy into the side.
Late in the game, Frank Onyeka replaced Ademola Lookman as the Super Eagles managed the closing minutes professionally to preserve their lead.
