The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has officially accepted the resignation of Walid Regragui, nearly three weeks after his departure was first revealed.
Exhausted after an intense cycle marked by a historic semi-final at World Cup 2022, a disappointing 2023 AFCON, and a painful loss to Senegal in AFCON 2025 final , the 50-year-old coach decided to step down, convinced he had taken the Atlas Lions as far as he could. Despite initial public denials, the federation waited to secure a successor before making his exit official.
Morocco has chosen Mohamed Ouahbi to take over the national team, at least until World Cup 2026. A long-time youth coach at RSC Anderlecht, Ouahbi recently made history by leading Morocco to its first-ever world title at any level with the U20 World Cup triumph in 2025.
Known for his communication skills and ability to manage diverse profiles, he now faces the challenge of maintaining cohesion at senior level, starting with upcoming friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay.
