El Karouani Confident of Morocco Call-Up as Utrecht Form Continues to Impress

Souffian El Karouani has expressed strong belief that his recent performances merit inclusion in Morocco’s upcoming national team training camp, though the Mohamed Ouahbi-led technical team will have the final say.

The FC Utrecht defender has been one of the standout performers in the Dutch top flight this season, delivering consistent displays at left-back that have drawn increasing attention. Speaking about his prospects of receiving a call-up to represent Morocco national football team, El Karouani admitted he believes his current level should place him firmly in contention.

“Personally, I think I should be there,” El Karouani said. “But ultimately, it’s the coach who makes the decision.”

The 24-year-old acknowledged that selection for the national side ultimately lies in the hands of head coach, whose squad choices will be closely scrutinized as Morocco continues to build on its recent international successes.

For his part, El Karouani remains focused on maintaining his performances week after week in the Eredivisie. “I simply have to continue showing my level every week,” he explained, emphasizing that consistency with Utrecht is his best pathway into the national setup.

Despite leaving the final decision to the coaching staff, the defender made it clear he would be surprised if his name does not appear when Morocco announce their next squad list. “We’ll have to wait to find out if I’ll be on the list,” he added, “but it would be a surprise to me if I weren’t.”
