CAF and Algeria in dispute over 2025 AFCON matters

In light of the African Football Confederation’s (CAF) continued silence regarding the appeal filed, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) is taking a tougher stance.

Two months after filing an appeal against the sanctions related to the Algeria–Nigeria match (2025 Africa Cup of Nations), the federation has still not received an official response despite its repeated follow-ups.

Denouncing a flagrant violation of its right to a defense, the FAF is now preparing a major legal offensive.

It plans to bring the case before the CAF Executive Committee and General Assembly to seek the outright annulment of the sanctions, which it deems unfounded.

If the impasse persists at the continental level, Algeria says it is prepared to take the dispute to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.

This appeal to an international body would mark a major rupture in relations between the FAF and the institution led by Patrice Motsepe.
