Former Ghana international Quincy Owusu-Abeyie has expressed confidence in the ability of the Ghana national football team to deliver a strong performance at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking about Ghana’s prospects, the ex-winger urged supporters to remain optimistic, insisting that the national team will rise to the occasion when the global tournament kicks off.
“Don’t worry, the Black Stars will perform at the 2026 World Cup,” Owusu-Abeyie said, offering reassurance to Ghanaian fans who are eager to see the team make an impact on football’s biggest stage.
The former Arsenal player, who represented Ghana at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, believes the team has the potential to compete strongly against the world’s best nations. According to him, with proper preparation and unity within the squad, Ghana can once again command respect in international football.
Ghana has a proud World Cup history, reaching the quarter-finals in 2010 — the furthest any African team has gone alongside Cameroon, Senegal, and until Morocco got to the semi-finals in different editions. Owusu-Abeyie’s comments reflect the belief shared by many former players that the Black Stars can recreate memorable moments at the next tournament.
The 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded format with 48 teams, giving African nations greater representation and a bigger opportunity to make their mark on the global stage.
Owusu-Abeyie’s vote of confidence adds to the growing anticipation among Ghanaian supporters as the Black Stars continue their preparations toward the tournament.
