Phobians End Kotoko Drought with Gritty 10-Man Victory at Baba Yara

Accra Hearts of Oak produced a spirited performance to defeat rivals Asante Kotoko 1–0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, despite playing the majority of the match with ten men.

The decisive moment came as early as the 13th minute when left-back Baba Adamu found the back of the net with a well-taken finish – a well flicked ball that flew higher to beat the tall goalkeeper of kotoko, sending the Phobians into an early lead. However, their task became more difficult in the 28th minute after Emmanuel Amankwah was shown a second yellow card, resulting in an automatic red.

Reduced to ten men for over an hour, Hearts of Oak displayed remarkable discipline and resilience to withstand sustained pressure from Kotoko. The victory also ended a three-season winless league run against their fierce rivals, marking a significant psychological boost for the Accra-based side.

The result lifts the Phobians to third place on the league table with 39 points, four behind leaders Medeama SC. With this crucial win, Hearts of Oak have kept their title ambitions firmly alive as the season heads into its decisive stages.
