Relegation-threatened Hohoe United produced a stunning performance to defeat league leaders Medeama 2-1, halting the Tarkwa-based club’s attempt to extend their lead at the top of the table. The surprise result saw the visitors leave Tarkwa with all three points in a game that had major implications at both ends of the league standings.
Medeama, who entered the contest with 46 points, dominated possession and dictated the pace of the game but struggled to break down a determined Hohoe United side. The first half ended goalless despite several promising attacking moves from the home team, with the visitors remaining resolute in defence while searching for opportunities on the counter.
The breakthrough finally arrived early in the second half when Kelvin Obeng put Medeama ahead, giving the home crowd reason to believe the leaders were on course for another important victory. However, Hohoe United responded swiftly and restored parity in the 53rd minute, silencing the home supporters and shifting the momentum of the game.
Medeama were handed a golden opportunity to reclaim the lead just three minutes later when they were awarded a penalty, but the resulting kick was missed, allowing Hohoe United to stay in the contest. As the match progressed, the visitors capitalised on their resilience, stunning the home side with a decisive goal in the 75th minute to take a 2-1 lead.
The remaining minutes, including an additional 10 minutes of stoppage time, saw Medeama push desperately for an equaliser, but Hohoe United held firm to secure a famous victory. The win temporarily lifts the visitors out of the relegation zone while dealing a significant blow to Medeama’s ambitions of extending their lead at the summit of the league table.
