ZESCO United suffer Red Arrows defeat at Nkoloma Stadium

After a long trip to the capital city, Lusaka, ZESCO United recorded a 3–1 loss to Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium on Sunday in Week 22 of the MTN Super League.

The home side opened the scoring early in the match through Angel Lubamba to take a 1–0 lead. Red Arrows continued to press, but Chadian forward Amine Hiver levelled the score just minutes before half-time to ensure the teams went into the break at 1–1.

In the second half, sustained pressure from the hosts paid off when Alassane Diarra restored Red Arrows’ lead to make it 2–1. ZESCO United created chances to get back into the game, but the home defence remained solid.

In the closing stages, Albert Kangwanda added a third goal to seal a 3–1 victory for Red Arrows.

The result marks a third consecutive league defeat for ZESCO United. Speaking after the match, head coach Emmanuel Siwale expressed concern over his side’s failure to convert chances.

“We have been creating chances. That was the case in Chililabombwe and it happened again here. On a good day, we could have carried the game, but that is not an excuse. If we cannot put the ball in the net, it becomes worrisome and it is a problem,” he said.

ZESCO United will turn their attention to next league fixture against Mutondo Stars on Thursday.
