FAZ president Keith Mweemba and the Zambian Premier League officials conferred with telecommunications giant MTN Zambia on their long-standing partnership.
MTN sponsors the Zambian Super League and the Chipolopolo underlining their long time commitment to the Zambian game. Speaking during the meeting, Mweemba said FAZ is encouraged by MTN’s willingness to deepen its engagement with football adding that the relationship must continue to create a win-win situation for both parties.
“We are happy to be here and happy that the CEO says MTN is willing to go far with football. We need to create a win-win situation,” Mweemba said.
He emphasised that FAZ remains focused on the future and will not dwell on the past challenges that the partnership might have faced.
“FAZ is a going concern and we will not dwell on the past as it should not be an excuse. I can assure you that we are ready to sit down and work together for the benefit of football,” he said.
Mweemba noted that football remains the biggest sport in the world and possesses a unique ability to unite people across different backgrounds. Meanwhile MTN Chief Executive Officer Abbad Reda reaffirmed the company’s desire to continue partnering with FAZ and expressed hope that the relationship could be broadened.
“We have been with FAZ for several years and would want this partnership to continue and be broadened so that both parties walk away as winners,” Reda said.
MTN has been sponsoring Zambia’s football flagship, the Zambia national football team (Chipolopolo), as well as the FAZ Secretariat since 2010. The current partnership between MTN and FAZ runs until December 2026.
