Week 10 of the GFF-APS Wallet men’s second division league concluded on Tuesday with some intriguing results. Ba Alpha Ceesay’s dramatic header at the death earned RS Tallinding three points away to Gunjur United, while Kanifing East recorded a solid 2-0 defeat of Suwo Kono with Omar Baldeh’s second half brace, and Bubacarr Suso rescued a point for Colley Stars against Serrekunda United. Elite United and Sibanor United drew a blank.
Colley Stars and Serrekunda United played out a tight 1-1 draw at the Ousman Saho Football Field. Bakary Sanyang’s early thunderbolt hit the crossbar, setting the tone for a tense encounter. Ensa Conta broke the deadlock for Serrekunda United with seven minutes left, but Colley Stars responded with former Gambia U-17 sensation Babucarr Susso’s equalizer two minutes from time to secure a point. Serrekunda United’s Ebrima Keita was sent off after a second yellow card late on.
In a dramatic encounter at Gunjur’s Nyimina Field, home side Gunjur United suffered another heartbreaking defeat, this time against RS Tallinding with Ba Alpha Ceesay’s dramatic late winner. RS Tallinding’s young sensation Foday Sawaneh opened the scoring for his side with a clever finish 21 minutes into the game, to score his third goal in his last two games.
However, the Coastal Boys found a way back into the game with Musa Jammeh’s long-range thunderous strike that left Abdoulie Kujabi of RS Tallinding rooted to the spot, as both sides headed into the break 1-1. More dramatic scenes followed in the second period as both sides searched for a winner, introducing fresh legs into the game.
Tallinding’s substitutes proved decisive as two of them combined to produce a moment of pure class. Experience player and team captain Modou Lamin Sallah’s measured pass was met at the back post by Ba Alpha Ceesay, who produced a brilliant header that stunned the home crowd and sent the away section into wild jubilations.
Elsewhere, Omar Baldeh’s second half brace was enough for the travelling Kanifing East to leave the Soma Mini Stadium with a solid 2-0 win over homeside Suwo Kono to climb up to second on the 18-team standings.
Meanwhile, Elite United and Sibanor United cancelled out each other in a tense goalless stalemate at the Live Your Dreams Academy Field in Basori.
Colley Stars stayed on top with 20 points, followed by Kanifing East and Wallidan on 19 points apiece, while Suwo Kono, Gunjur United and Serrekunda FC occupied the relegation zones.
